Celtic players' COVID confusion continues after Norway's game v Romania is called off following positive test

Celtic pair Kristoffer Ajer and Moi Elyounoussi are facing more COVID confusion after Norway’s Euro Nations League game against Romania was called up.

A member of the Norway squad tested positive for coronavirus, which means the entire squad may now have to self isolate for ten days.

This puts Wednesday's game in Austria in doubt too, although Norway may try and play the game with a different squad.

However, it now looks likely that Ajer and Elyounoussi won’t play at all during the international break before the return to Celtic.

When exactly they do remains unclear. Norway’s health board rules mean the players cannot leave the country as a squad to play games, but individuals can return to the countries in which they play.

It is now likely that Romania will be awarded a 3-0 victory for the canceled fixture and the Norwegian Football Federation will be fined.

NFF President Terje Svendson said: "The Norwegian Football Federation believes that we can travel within the regulations. The Norwegian government says no to this. We disagree with that, but of course we cannot defy the government.

“We are very disappointed that the authorities are forcing us to stay home. All the other 54 Uefa nations are playing international matches this week except Norway. This is very detrimental to the national team's ambitions in the short and long term.”

Neil Lennon’s team are back in domestic action this Saturday (21 November) when they travel to Easter Road to take on Hibs.
