Celtic player ratings v Motherwell as creative duo rise to the occasion with big performances

Here are your Celtic player ratings from the 4-1 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park.

Moi Elyounoussi scored two early goals from close range to set Neil Lennon's men on their way to three points. Declan Gallagher pulled Motherwell back into the game in the second half with a towering back-post header, however any hopes of a comeback were extinguished thanks to Elyounoussi's hat-trick strike and an Olivier Ntcham effort.

It was a much improved performance from Celtic, and here's how each of the starting lineup rated.

Bain

Not a great deal he could do about Gallagher's header. Will be asking for his teammates to do much better from set pieces. Motherwell grew into the match in the second half, but he didn't have too much work to do. 6

Frimpong

An excellent outlet down the right, and played a big part in the second goal. Always looking to drive forward. Wasn't quite the same force after being on the receiving end of a nasty Devante Cole challenge in the second half. Replaced by Elhamed after 70 minutes. 7

Bitton

Looked composed alongside Ajer for large spells but will be disappointed with his role in the Motherwell goal. 6

Ajer

No nonsense performance at the back. Barely put a foot wrong. Went down injured and had to be replaced with little more than ten minutes left, which will give Neil Lennon serious cause for concern. 7

Laxalt

Rarely looks flustered. Defended well, was composed on the ball and offered support in attacking areas. Another strong performance. 7

Brown

Controlled the match from a deeper position. Won a number of important 50/50 challenges as Motherwell tried to break forward, and was crucial in stopping the counter time and again. A much improved showing. 7

McGregor

Neat and tidy in midfield, and kept Celtic playing at a high tempo throughout the first half. However his influence lessened as Motherwell grew into the match in the second half. Still, he had a decent game. 6

Rogic

Superb play to create Elyounoussi's second goal. Picking up the pass from Frimpong, dancing towards the byline and squaring the ball for the Norwegian to tap in. One of Celtic's better performers, and outwith Elyounoussi, the man who most looked like making something happen. 8

Christie

Should've scored just before half-time after some excellent work from Rogic breaking forward. One of his quieter matches. Silly foul in lead up to Motherwell goal. 6

Elyounoussi

Answered his own criticism in the best possible way. A brilliant hat-trick to win the match for Celtic – his third goal the pick of the bunch. Lennon needed his players to step-up today, and nobody did that more so than Elyounoussi. 9

Ajeti

6
Really sharp play inside the Motherwell boss to intercept a slack pass and fire a shot towards goal, leading to the opener. A couple of sloppy moments let him down in the second half though. Could probably do a bit more. Subbed for Edouard with 20 minutes to play.
