Celtic player ratings as Ryan Christie at the peak of his powers in dominant Rennes win

Celtic enjoyed a routine win over Rennes as they secured their spot in the next round of the Europa League .

The Hoops are through to the knockout phase as group E winners after an impressive 3-1 victory over the French side.

Odsonne Edouard was left out of the starting XI but his replacement Lewis Morgan opened the scoring as he lead the line for the home side.

Ryan Christie continued his brilliant start to the season as he doubled Celtic's lead, before Mikey Johnston made an impressive cameo off the bench as he netted on his return from injury.

The champions were in cruise control for the full 90 minutes and there were a number of standout performers for Neil Lennon 's men.

Here's how  Record Sport' s Michael Gannon rated the Celtic stars:

Fraser Forster

The big keeper was getting frostbite and then pulled off a jaw-dropping triple save out of nowhere in the second half.  8

Moritz Bauer

Has struggled to dislodge Hatem Elhamed and Jeremie Fringpong but made the most of his chance last night with a solid display. 8

Kris Ajer

Strolled it at the back and was smart in his use of the ball when stepping out. Had to switch on when Renne had a bash in the second half. 7

Christopher Jullien

Could have kept on the shades he wore in the Celtic Christmas advert as he was cool whenever called on to intervene. 7

Greg Taylor

Outstanding first European start but never looked out of place, constantly demanding the ball and neat whenever in possession. 8

Scott Brown

Dominant display in the middle, kept it simple and ran the show, and managed to pick up a yellow card that burns his suspension in a dead rubber before the knockout stages. 8

Callum McGregor

Top drawer as usual. A class act in a deeper role, pulling the strings and bringing teammates in to the game while punching holes in the Rennes defence. 8

James Forrest

Player of the year last term but seems to have kicked on again. Terrific assist for the opener and was oozing confidence. 7

Oliver Ntcham

Picked up where he left off against Lazio in the first half and looked a new man. Got a little careless after the break before Brown gave him a jolt. 7

Ryan Christie

In form and in the goals again. Was out wide but had a field day cutting inside and produced curling second that flummoxed the keeper. 8

Lewis Morgan

It was a lot to ask for him to lead the line but he stepped up to the plate. The goal was superb and he go in to some great positions to nearly add to his tally. 8

Subs:

Mikey Johnston (for Forrest 67) Grabbed a stunning third in an impressive cameo. 7

Nir Bitton (for Brown 77) Slotted in without any fuss. 5

Leigh Griffiths (for Christie 79) Great reception from the support. 5
