Celtic offered cheeky friendly request from non-league side after pre-season matches fall through

Celtic have been offered a cheeky friendly from an Ayrshire non-league side.

Darvel FC, who will be playing in the new West of Scotland League, have thrown out a request to play the Scottish Premiership champions after their friendly plans with Dundalk and Derry City fell through.

Darvel sent the Hoops a message saying: "Hi Celtic, we have heard a few issues about not being able to face your planned opponents at friendly games.

"Fancy a knockabout at Recreation Park?"

Celtic's campaign will kick-off next weekend at home to Hamilton Accies while Darvel are still waiting to find out when their season will start – with October looking the most likely.

The Vale have Old Firm experience in their squad in the shape of Jason Marr and Ross Perry, who played with Celtic and Rangers respectively.
