Celtic nine-in-a-row flag raised over Glasgow City Chambers in George Square

Glasgow City Council have launched a probe after a prankster raised a Celtic nine-in-a-row flag on over the city chambers.

Videos, uploaded to Twitter, show the green flag replacing the Saltire hanging on the Glasgow City Council headquarters over looking the city’s George Square.

A Hoops fan scaled the landmark building to switch the flags.

The prank was short-lived as the flag was quickly switched back to the long-standing Saltire.

Glasgow City Council branded the stunt 'inappropriate' and have launched an investigation.

Tory councillor Thomas Kerr tweeted: “Concerned to see a Celtic flag being flown from the city chambers this morning.

“Our civic buildings are there for all Glaswegians no matter which football team you choose to support.

“I have spoken to the Lord Provost who has assured me that this matter is being investigated.”

A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: “This is inappropriate. It should not have happened and we are investigating.”

Superintendent Stephen Dolan said: "We are aware of a video circulating online. At this time no crime has been established and the incident remains a matter for Glasgow City Council."
