Celtic next manager latest as Jesse Marsch faint hopes 'set' to be extinguished

The pieces are moving over in the Bundesliga.

RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann has been confirmed as the next manager of Bayern Munich, set to take over when Hansi Flick departs at the end of the season.

It's a big move that's been a long-time coming for the young coach, regarded as one of the best up and comers in European football.

The deal also looks set to have implications for Jesse Marsch, the RB Salzburg manager who admitted it'd be an honour to replace Neil Lennon at Celtic.

Those comments back in Marsch sparked hopeful speculation he could be the man to take the reins at Parkhead.

But transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports, as was somewhat expected, that the American is set to replace Nagelsmann at Leipzig.

It would be the logical next step for Marsch, stepping up from the Austrian Bundesliga to its' illustrious German counterpart.

And it means he can probably be ruled out of the running at Celtic permanently.

Marsch himself last week hinted Leipzig was a possibility.

He told Sky Germany: "Of course I understand the club very well.

"If you ask me what would fit best, RB Leipzig is of course a top idea.

"But Julian Nagelsmann is doing a great job and there is currently no reason for Leipzig to look for a new coach. But if I can have the opportunity as a coach in Leipzig, then that's a great idea for me."

Hopes of landing Marsch among Celtic fans were already rather faint so most won't lose too much sleep over this development.

The lack of an appointment, generally, however, is becoming an ever-more pressing concern.

It's all gone quiet on the Eddie Howe front and he's been linked with the vacant post at Tottenham over the past week.

Incoming CEO Dominic McKay no doubt has plenty on his plate but with the season petering out, supporters are craving some concrete developments on the managerial front.
