Celtic news and transfer headlines including Turnbull latest and Duffy signing boost

Here are your Celtic headlines for Monday, August 24.

Turnbull nears Parkhead move

Celtic are reportedly closing in on a deal for Motherwell rising star David Turnbull.

The Hoops' move for the 21-year-old sensationally collapsed last summer as a knee problem cropped up in the medical.

But Neil Lennon's side have launched another bid for the playmaker after his successful recovery from two operations.

The Scottish Sun claims Turnbull will become a Celtic player this week with the Parkhead club paying £3m for his signature.

Celtic in pole position for Duffy

Celtic have been handed a boost in their quest to sign Shane Duffy after David Moyes admited West Ham would be strapped for cash this summer.

The Hoops are hoping to secure a loan deal for the Brighton defender, but the Hammers are also keen on acquiring the Irishman.

But Moyes has insisted his side aren't going to be on a spending spree during the transfer window and is happy with the squad he has at his disposal.

He said: “I’ve always been more interested in the players we’ve got than the ones who are at other clubs, so I think the improvements we made from the restart after lockdown were good.

“We’ve got some bright young players and some players who are improving, so if we can add to it, great, but as I’ve reiterated a few times, the owners spent a lot of money over a year ago, and I’m sure we don’t have that amount of money available to spend again.”

Celtic's hopes to land Duffy received a further boost when the player's brother shared a Hoops crest on Instagram.

Boubakar Kouyate price fall

Troyes defender Boubakar Kouyate could be on his way to the Ligue 1 side Metz for £1.4m.

Celtic and Rangers were linked with a deal for the Mali international with the centre-half valued at £4.5m earlier in the summer.

But it appears Kouyate's asking price has fallen considerably which could alert the Hoops if a deal for Duffy falls through.

Lennon is looking for defensive reinforcements after the departure of Jozo Simunovic this summer.
