Celtic move for Steven Fletcher 'close to being agreed'

Steven Fletcher is believed to be close to securing a deal with Celtic.

The 33-year-old is without a club after leaving Sheffield Wednesday in June, and now looks set to join Neil Lennon's side

Fletcher, who has scored 10 goals in 33 games for Scotland, would give Lennon another option upfront as they aim to secure a historic tenth successive title.

Record Sport report that a one-year deal has been offered to the striker, but he's looking for a longer deal.

His former Hibs team-mate Tam McManus tweeted: "Steven Fletcher is edging towards a deal at Celtic. Talks are ongoing.

"Only stumbling block possibly the length of contract but I think it will get done. He wants to sign for Celtic as I said a week or two ago. Certainly if money was a factor he would be staying in England."

Fletcher scored 52 goals in 189 appearances for Hibs and went on to play for Burnley, Wolves, Sunderland, Marseille and Sheffield Wednesday.

He made his Scotland debut in 2008 and scored his first goal for the national team at Hampden against Iceland in 2009.
