Celtic move for Fraser Forster is 'over' as keeper remains at Southampton

Celtic's move for Fraser Forster appears to be off.

The 32-year-old was manager Neil Lennon's first choice for the goalkeeping position, but will now have to turn his attention elsewhere.

Forster returned to the club last season on loan for a second spell, and was a key part of the club's Betfred Cup and Scottish Premiership wins.

Record Sport today report that Celtic had agreed a one-year loan deal with an option for a permanent move in the summer of 2021, but that has been turned down by the keeper.

Forster will now remain at St Mary's and try to force his way into the team.

Celtic have been linked with other keepers in recent days, with Joe Hart and former Hoops keeper David Marshall both mentioned in connection with Neil Lennon's side.

A source recently told Record Sport that negotiations had begun with Forster's fellow English keeper Hart, saying: “There were talks last week with Hart’s people and there are further discussions planned to take place before the weekend.

"It has all been very positive so far but obviously a lot is going to depend on what Fraser’s situation is at Southampton."

33-year-old Hart has made 75 appearances for England, and was most recently at Burnley.
