Celtic morning headlines including Odsonne Edouard return latest, Brown gives Rangers verdict

Here are your Celtic morning headlines on Friday, October 16.

Odsonne Edouard return latest

Odsonne Edouard still remains a doubt for Celtic's match against Rangers on Saturday as fans await his return to Glasgow.

The striker tested positive for coronavirus on international duty with France U21s.

It was expected Edouard would arrive back in Scotland on Friday after completing the required ten days of isolation in his homeland and give Celtic a chance to assess their talisman before the big game.

But the Daily Record claim there is no confirmation when exactly he will land in Scotland.

Scott Brown gives derby verdict

Scott Brown believes it's his reponsibility to help his team-mates through Saturday's derby with no fans.

It will be an unusual experience as Celtic vs Rangers will be played behind closed doors for the first Glasgow derby of the season.

But the Hoops skipper iniststs it's up to himself and other experienced players inside the dressing room to make sure they treat it as any normal clash against their rivals.

He told the Daily Record: "People like myself who know the fixture well and even people like Shane Duffy, who hasn’t played in one yet but knows what it’s about, we need to make ourselves heard.

“Shane wanted to be here, he wanted to play in these games and it’s a great opportunity for him.

“It’s not ideal to be doing that in an empty stadium but it’s still giving him that chance to pull on the jersey and, hopefully, to put in a good performance as well. It means the world to him, as it does to people like myself and people like Callum.

“It’s hard without the fans, there’s no question about that, but you’ve got to try to make the most of the situation.

“Our pitch is in good nick so with that we’ll try to play football and try to focus on our strengths. That’s what we do week in, week out."

Christie could play against Rangers

Celtic are hopeful Ryan Christie could be given the green light to face Rangers on Saturday.

The midfielder is currently self-isolating, along with Kieran Tierney, after Stuart Armstrong tested positive for coronavirus on duty for Scotland.

It was expected he would miss the derby clash this weekend, but there could be a dramatic U-turn as Arsenal look to have Tierney cleared for their match against Manchester City on Saturday night.

Celtic are keeping a close eye on the situation and if Tierney is passed fit to play for the Gunners, they feel Christie should be handed a similar reprieve.
