Celtic miss out on Paulos Abraham as teen praised for knocking back move that would 'end badly'

Celtic missed out on the signing of Swedish wondered Paulos Abraham after he chose to join Groningen instead.

Neil Lennon’s men tried to sign the player on deadline day in a £2m move but he opted to move to the Eredivisie instead.

And Swedish pundit Patrick Ekwall insists it was the right choice because of the situation at Celtic.

He believes Abraham moving to Scotland would have ‘ended badly’ if he had made the move to Celtic Park.

Reported by the Scottish Sun, he said: "I don't know why Paulos rejected Celtic, but I think Groningen is the better choice for his career.

"With him being so young if he was thrown into the spotlight and high pressure that surrounds Celtic, it could have ended badly.

"Groningen and playing in the Eredivisie offer a little more security for him."

Abraham also rejected a move to Feyenoord as well as the Premiership to sign for Groningen, and deemed it a exciting project.

He said: "I had a few choices, but I thought the plans of Groningen suited me better.

"They are working on a great project here that I believe in."
