Celtic 'make contact' with Ben Pearson as Neil Lennon begins transfer plans

Celtic have made initial enquiries for Preston midfielder Ben Pearson, according to a report.

The midfielder is available on a pre-contract and Neil Lennon wants to bring him to Glasgow to strengthen his midfield for next season.

And the Sky Sports report that initial contact has been made for the 25-year-old.

Celtic have a lot of depth in that position but could need it strengthened with Scott Brown approaching the end of his career and Ryan Christie a wanted man.

Pearson has spent five years at North End since joining the club from Manchester United in January 2016, and has impressed in the English Championship.

He started his career at Old Trafford and had a loan spell at Barnsley before making the switch to Preston, where he has made 155 appearances for the club.

That includes 11 so far this season but he’s not played since a 2-2 draw with Wycombe in early December after picking up an injury.

Pearson has spoke in the past about his disciplinary issues after receiving 14 bookings and 3 red cards during the 2018/19 season, leading his mum to stop going to games.

Pearson is the second Preston player Celtic have been linked with, with Lennon looking to bring Ben Davies to the club last summer.
