Celtic 'make approach' to sign Nottingham Forest transfer target

Celtic have reportedly entered the race for Nottingham Forest transfer target Chtistian Atsu.

According to Sky Sports, Neil Lennon's side have made an approach to the Magpies about the availability of the 28-year-old.

Forest have been credited with an interest in the former Chelsea man, while Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers and Fulham are also interested, too.

Atsu is yet to score in 22 matches this season and has made only six starts in the Premier League under Steve Bruce and looks to be on the fringes at St James' Park.

The Sun reported earlier that the Magpies want Atsu's wages covered in full before he departs the club, while the Daily Mail this afternoon have said the player is in discussions about a move away from the north-east.

Celtic, meanwhile, are gunning for a tenth-consecutive Scottish top flight title and are in first place five points ahead of Rangers in second.

Atsu has only started six matches in the Premier League and appears out of favour with Bruce having been left on the substitute's bench for four of the past nine League games.

The Ghanaian international was signed by Newcastle from Chelsea in 2017 after a loan spell at St James' Park.

He has extensive Premier League experience, playing in 79 matches in the English top flight and has a promotion from the Championship under his belt with Newcastle in 2016-17.

The winger scored five times and registered three assists under Rafa Benitez.

Forest are in third place, only four points behind League leaders Leeds United and are well set for a promotion challenge.
