Celtic linked with move for Honduras striker Jorge Benguche

Celtic have been linked with a move for Honduras striker Jorge Benguche.

The 24-year-old plays with Club Deportivo Olimpia in his homeland, and has three caps for his national side since making his debut last year.

Honduran paper La Prensa have reported that Benguche is attracting interest from various European clubs, with Celtic named in the article along with Portuguese side Belenenses and Serie A outfit Cagliari.

MLS clubs are also said to be keeping tabs on the youngster, who has scored 33 times for Olimpia in the league since joining the club in 2016 - and who scored a double in his national debut in a friendly against Puerto Rico back in September.

The article quotes glowing praise for Benguche from the mouth of legendary Honduran midfielder and former Elche player Gilberto Yearwood, who says that the striker "has all the necessary conditions to do well in Europe".

"He shouldn't be scared. He simply needs to demonstrate all the qualities he has on the pitch. I have no doubt he will play in Europe," added Yearwood.

The news comes days after Honduras national team boss Fabian Coito compared Benguche to Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema in an interview with Italian football site Centrotrentuno concerning rumours that Cagliari are keen on him.
