Celtic linked with a move for Man City defender Ko Itakura

Newly-appointed Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is reportedly considering move for Manchester City's Ko Itakura.

Over the past 18 months the Japanese international has had a successful loan spell at Dutch side Groningen in which he made 35 appearances for the club.

Postecoglou is well aware of Itakura from his days managing Japanese club Yokohama F Marinos, who are part of the City Football Group.

Itakura, 24, is reportedly high on a list of transfer targets drawn up by Postecoglou.

The Celtic manager is also looking at other possibilities and is apparently closing in on a deal to sign Croatian defender Mario Vuskovic from Hajduk Split.

Japanese defender Itakura, who can also play in the holding midfield role, currently has five international caps for his country.

Manchester City signed him from J1 League side Kawasaki Frontale in 2019 before immediately sending him out on loan to Dutch outfit Groningen.

Celtic boss Postecoglou is apparently looking at various options as the Greek looks to strengthen his squad before their Champions League qualifiers starting next month.

Brighton goalkeeper Matt Ryan who spent last season on loan at Arsenal, is reportedly set to be an option Celtic are exploring, whilst they have also been linked with a move for Sheffield United defender George Baldock to help with the problems they are facing in the right-back area.
