Celtic line-up vs Milan predicted and what Neil Lennon needs to ditch to find Europa League response

Celtic are out of the Europa League but their trip to Italy could prove pivotal in the type of December they will embark on.

The Parkhead chiefs have backed Neil Lennon after exiting the Betfred Cup, but a result, or at least a performance the fans can get behind against Milan, would do the Hoops the world of good.

They know the San Siro is a difficult proposition, but they'll be as motivated as ever after this week's events off the field.

Lennon has a dilemma. Should he put out what he believes to be Celtic's strongest side or look to the weekend against St Johnstone, which in the grand scheme of things, is of greater importance. He'll have to strike the right balance.

That coincides with the formation he will use. Celtic started with a 3-5-2 against Ross County and then changed to a 4-2-3-1 in the second half as they desperately looked for answers.

Celtic were far too narrow against the Staggies and the change to a four at the back only made things worse as they were crowded out in the central areas.

With Jeremie Frimpong available for selection, Lennon should ditch the 4-2-3-1 he ended Sunday's game with and utilise the wing-back and Diego Laxalt in a 3-5-2, especially with Celtic's lack of width further up the pitch.

Vasilis Barkas should keep his place in goals with Kris Ajer, Christopher Jullien and Nir Bitton in defence.

Lennon should lean on the experience of Callum McGregor, Scott Brown and Ryan Christie in the middle of the park, with Frimpong and Laxalt on either side.

Odsonne Edouard and Albian Ajeti need more reps playing together and should also be handed a start.

Predicted Celtic XI: Barkas, Bitton, Jullien, Ajer, Frimpong, Laxalt, Brown, McGregor, Christie, Ajeti, Edouard.
