Celtic legends want Steven Gerrard out because they know Rangers are going to win the lot – Hotline

Aston Villa are poised to make a move for their preferred managerial candidate with Steven Gerrard the odds-on favourite with the bookies.

The Villans would certainly live up to their nickname with Rangers supporters should they tempt the Ibrox boss down the M6.

But there are plenty who think Gerrard moving to the Midlands would be a Brum deal for the Liverpool legend.

Gerry Milligan, Erskine, said: “Gerrard will go. What is there to keep him at Ibrox? He stopped the 10, another title will be very anti-climactic, nothing will happen in Europe and the lure of the big atmospheres in the Premier League will swamp Dingwall, Paisley and other grounds. He will go.”

Jimmy Mac, Glasgow, countered: “If Gerrard was to go to Aston Villa it will be the biggest mistake he will ever make. He will blow any chance of being Liverpool manager and, if Gerrard fails to save them from going down, Villa will drop him like they have just done with Dean Smith with no thought or hesitation. Gerrard should look back at Souness and his regrets over leaving Rangers.”

Rab Picken, London, reckons Rangers are safe. He said: “I laugh at the past Celtic players Charlie Nicholas and Chris Sutton, they want Stevie G to go because Rangers will blitz the lot this season even though we’ve not started to play yet. Title 56 with Stevie is on its way.”

To be fair to Charlie, he did say he thought Gerrard would be mad to leave and join Villa.

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “Steven Gerrard’s name is linked with all managerless clubs in the English Premier League from Norwich to Aston Villa. There's more chance of him going to Dunfermline. He’s staying until he has proved himself by winning the treble - then Liverpool will come calling.”

And James McClean, Bute, said: “Can’t believe Aston Villa are considering a rookie manager like Gerrard. One trophy in four years speaks for itself. A lot of people including me would like him to go, we are fed up with his bleating the last four years. Maybe he can see the 2012 situation returning?”

Moving on and the condemnation of the Celtic fans who disrupted the Remembrance silence at Dundee on Sunday continues.

Colin Hall, Carrickfergus, said: “The section of Celtic support who refused to adhere to the minute’s silence was, yet again, disgraceful. They forget that their own players and supporters back then, like countless others, paid the ultimate sacrifice for their freedom. Not only did they show no respect for the fallen or their club, they didn’t respect themselves.”

Derek Morris, Falkirk, said: “As the Celtic board actively encourage these scenes every year with their refusal to wear poppies on the players’ shirts, it’s about time the decent Celtic fans stood up and let them know that this cannot go on year after year.”

Hoops fan Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Whilst Celtic fans get deserved criticism over their behaviour, they only represent a tiny minority of so called fans. The rest of us do not agree with their actions and respect the minute’s silence. Sunday was simply embarrassing.”

Sticking with Celtic and Kyogo Furuhashi might he setting the Premiership alight with his goals but his antics off the ball have seen him slammed after incidents against Livingston and Dundee.

Stuart Gillespie emailed: “Is Kyogo going to dive and hold his face every game? He could give Tom Daley a run for his money.”

It’s not just Furuhashi getting it in the neck, Rab Hunter, Dumfries, reckons referees have underplayed two Hearts players being throttled in recent games against Rangers and Dundee United.

He said: “For the second time in three weeks we have witnessed an opposing player grab a Hearts player by the throat and the referee only deem the offence worthy of a yellow card. According to the rules of the game any act of violent conduct should result in an immediate red card and, given such an act is considered assault by law, why have these officials once again failed to act accordingly? Is it simply because it’s Hearts?”
