Celtic legend takes Rangers dig as Steven Gerrard's side draw with Livingston

Rangers returned to the top of the table on Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't a happy occasion for Steven Gerrard's men.

They were held to a 0-0 draw by Livingston at the Tony Macaroni in a dire encounter.

The visitors came close to scoring twice in the closing stages of the game, but it was a disappointing occasion for Rangers and their supporters.

That emotion wasn't shared by Alan Thompson. The Celtic legend tweeted: "Nice to see Livingston take points off Rangers today."

Thompson twice scored winning goals against Rangers during his time in Glasgow, and was an integral part of Martin O'Neill's side as they reached the UEFA Cup Final in 2003.

He made a total of 227 appearances for Celtic, scoring 51 goals.

His fellow English former midfielder Gerrard was a frustrated figure at the Tony Macaroni Arena, as he watched Borna Barisic's 84th-minute free-kick saved and Ryan Kent's curling effort go just wide in the second minute of injury time.

Rangers are next in action against Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Saturday, while Celtic's next Premiership fixture is against Dundee United at Tannadice on the same day.
