Celtic legend Martin O'Neill 'hasn't retired' as he opens door to management return

Former Celtic boss Martin O'Neill has insisted he's not retired from management at the age of 69 and would consider new offers to return to the game.

The ex-Hoops boss has been in charge of Aston Villa, Sunderland, Ireland and Nottingham Forest since leaving Parkhead 16 years ago.

But he's been without a club since June 2019, when he was fired from Forest - the club where he won two European Cups as a player - after just five months in charge following a player revolt.

However, in a webinar organised by Belfast's Queens University, where he studied law, O'Neill insisted he would look at any job offer that came his way.

He said: "I probably have hidden behind this pandemic and taken a break.

"But I don't think you ever lose your enthusiasm for it.

"That enthusiasm I had for Gaelic football and football hasn't really left, so I will have a little look at these things and see what develops.

"But I haven't exactly gone into a cave yet, although who knows."

O'Neill won seven major honours with Celtic in his five year spell and led them to the 2003 UEFA Cup Final, where they lost to Jose Mourinho 's Porto in Seville.
