Jock Stein - who was from Burnbank in Lanarkshire - had two children, George and daughter Ray, with his wife Jeanie McAuley.

At the age of just 59, Ray died from cancer in September 2006 and Jeanie died less than a year later, aged 80, in August 2007.

George was living in Switzerland when his father passed away during a Scotland game against Wales in Cardiff in 1985.

In September 2015, to mark the 30th anniversary of his father's death, he attended a remembrance service at Parkhead, along with Lisbon Lions legends and Celtic staff.

On Saturday, a statement from Celtic read: "Everyone at Celtic is deeply saddened to learn of the death of George Stein, son of legendary Celtic Manager Jock Stein.

"George passed away last night after a long illness.

"The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with George's family at this difficult time."
