Celtic legend Jock Stein hailed alongside Manchester United and Liverpool heroes in new documentary

A forthcoming documentary takes a look at the lives of Scottish football giants Jock Stein, Bill Shankly and Matt Busby.

In 'The Three Kings: The Makers of Modern Football', Jonny Owen tells the story of three legends who had a profound impact on Celtic, Liverpool, Manchester United and football as a whole.

Based on a book of the same name by Owen and Leo Moynihan, the film uses archive footage and behind the scenes recollections to illuminate the stories of some of the most renowned names in the sport's history.

Owen has previously worked as producer, director and writer on 2015's Brian Clough documentary 'I Believe in Miracles'.

The stirring trailer begins with Shankly saying: "Somebody said that football's a matter of life and death to you. I said 'Listen, it's more important than that.'"

Those immortal words are followed by footage of famous triumphs involving the three clubs.

In his time at Celtic, Stein won 10 league titles, eight Scottish Cups and six League Cups. Most memorably, he was in charge of the Lisbon Lions side who won the European Cup in 1967.

He also managed the Scottish national team for seven years before passing away in 1985.

Busby was manager of United for almost 24 years between October 1945 and June 1969, wining five First Division titles, two FA Cups and 1968's European Cup.

Shankly, meanwhile, took Liverpool into the top flight by winning the Second Division in 1962, before going on to win the First Division two years later and twice after that.

He also claimed two FA Cups and the 1973 UEFA Cup.

The film will be released in cinemas on November 1 and will be available on DVD and digital download from November 16.
