Celtic legend Jackie McNamara out of hospital after collapsing on doorstep with brain bleed

Ex-Celtic star Jackie McNamara is recovering at home following surgery for a bleed on the brain.

Good pal and former Hoops team-mate Simon Donnelly broke the good news on BBC Radio Scotland.

The ex-Scotland star's recovery comes three weeks after he collapsed on the doorstep of his York home after taking his dog for a walk.

He spent time in intensive care at Hull Royal Infirmary after undergoing surgery.

Donnelly explained the 46-year-old is continuing his recovery at home.

He said: "He has obviously been through the mill in the last three weeks since everything happened."

And it according to Donnelly, his old friend has even got his appetite back, he added: "I believe he had a Chinese takeaway last night."

Jackie's daughter Erin took to Twitter last week to thank the public for their kind words.

She posted: "Thank you for the continued support for my dad, the past week has been so overwhelming for us as a family.

"He is making progress but still has a long road to recovery.

"We are so thankful for all the care he’s received and remain positive."

He is now a consultant with Dunfermline Athletic where his football career began in the early 1990s, though he still has a house in north of England.

McNamara, who won 33 caps for Scotland and made 256 appearances, was manager of York City FC until March 2108.
