Celtic 'left unimpressed' as Liam Scales doesn't make bench on Ireland duty

Celtic have reportedly been left furious with Liam Scales' lack of involvement on international duty with Republic of Ireland.

Scales completed a dream move to Celtic in August from Shamrock Rovers and replaced Swansea City defender Ryan Manning in Ireland manager Stephen Kenny's squad for a World Cup qualifier away to Azerbaijan.

Despite travelling thousands of miles to and from the match in Baku at short notice, Scales did not even make the bench as Ireland won 3-0, as the Daily Record reports.

The Celtic star has never been capped at senior level by Ireland but has been called upon six times with the U21 squad.

Minutes weren't offered in Ireland's 4-0 friendly win over 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar and Celtic are far from pleased.

The Parkhead side are said to be 'unimpressed' with how their summer import has been treated over the international break, according to Extra.IE.

Former Hoops defender Shane Duffy netted the winner for Ireland in Tuesday's friendly but their hopes of reaching next winter's major tournament are over.

It remains to be seen whether Scales gets his chance to impress at club level upon his return to Lennoxtown ahead of this weekend's trip to Motherwell.

He has been limited to a fleeting appearance against Raith Rovers in the League Cup since arriving from his native Ireland.
