Celtic have been dealt a major injury blow, with confirmation of Jota's prognosis.
Brendan Rodgers have revealed the Portuguese winger is set to be out for around six to nine months as he recovers from a knee injury.
The £9m player sustained the serious injury when he jarred his leg on the Tannadice turf as Celtic secured their fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title in style last weekend against Dundee United.
Jota went down in pain during the first half, and only reemerged amid the scenes of celebrations at full-time, wearing a brace to protect his knee while walking on crutches.
Now, speaking to the media ahead of Sunday's derby against Rangers, Rodgers has revealed the extent of Jota's injury.
"Obviously, Jota will be out," the Northern Irishman said. "Sadly for us, and for him, he will be out for a period of time. Probably six to nine months.
"The cruciate was worse than we'd hoped, really. He starts on his journey from recovery from that now."
In a further squad update ahead of Sunday lunchtime, Rodgers added: "Ali Johnston won't be available.
"Ali has been needing an injection into his hip for a while.
"So, so we've enough time in preparation for the cup final, we decided we would do that after the Dundee United game.
"That keeps him out for the weekend and probably the St Mirren game. That then gives him a few weeks to be ready for the cup final.
"Dane Murray will be out for the rest of the season with a knee issue.
"Yang is back training with the squad. We'll give him one more day and then we'll see if he's ready.
"Daizen [Maeda] should be fine. Nicolas [Kuhn] was out, but we're just assessing him and a slight knee issue he's got. We had that scanned though, so it should be okay."
More to follow.
