Celtic 'knock on the door' of Rodrigo Riquelme as Neil Lennon eyes swoop for Atletico Madrid wonderkid

Celtic have made enquiries to sign Rodrigo Riquelme from Atletico Madrid, according to a report.

The winger is out of contract in 2021 and Atletico want to extend his deal.

But Riquelme is eyeing more first team action and Celtic are one of two clubs who have spoken to Atletico about him.

Mundo Deportivo say the youngster also has Real Betis chasing him with Celtic hoping to persuade him to move to Glasgow.

The 20-year-old was hugely impressive for Atletico’s UEFA Youth League team when they beat Rangers last season.

The Spaniards are detemined to keep him and are willing to let the star leave on loan this season, providing he signs his new deal at the club.

It’s unclear whether Celtic would be interested in a loan deal should he commit his long term future to the Spanish giants.

Riquelme has just made two first team appearances for the club, including once in the La Liga when they took on Eibar back in September 2019.

Neil Lennon's men are on the lookout for a number of new signings as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of a huge season for the club.

Moi Elyounoussi is the only summer signing after he joined on loan from Southampton but a deal for Greek goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas is close.

Offers have also been made for Peterborough striker Ivan Toney and West Ham's Albian Ajeti.
