Celtic kids tickets for AZ Alkmaar available for £1 as fan groups applaud club response to prices protest banner

Ticket's for Celtic's Europa League clash with AZ Alkmaar will only cost £1 for kids as Parkhead bosses respond to the Green Brigade's pop at the board over pricing.

During Thursday's 3-0 win over Jablonec, supporters voiced their frustration at being charged £19 "to get back in" in a banner showing the club's chief executive Dominic McKay squeezing a towel with money falling into a piggy bank.

Below, a second banner was unfurled with the words "rinse and repeat" as fans made their feelings heard over paying extra money for the first match back with full capacity since March 2020.

The following day, Celtic announced ticket information for the subsequent play-off round with AZ Alkmaar with season ticket holders under 13 only being charged £1 for the game.

In a statement, the move is "focused on growing the next generation of Celtic fans", meanwhile adult prices are "frozen" at £19 and concessions costing £12, the same as it was for the match against Jablonec.

Celtic announced: "Having secured a spot in the UEFA Europa League play-offs, and with a place in the group stages up for grabs, the club is delighted to announce that tickets for Celtic’s home match v AZ Alkmaar next Wednesday at Celtic Park are priced at just £1 for our Under-13 Season Ticket holders!

"With kids' season tickets costing only £50, the club is focused on growing the next generation of Celtic fans, and this £1 ticket offer for our youngest Season Ticket holders offers fantastic value for our Celtic supporting families looking to back the Bhoys under the Paradise lights as the European campaign continues."

The news impressed some Celtic fan groups who were glad to see their message on ticket pricing taken on board.

Celtic Shared, a fan collective that galvanised the protest against the club hierarchy prior to the match against Dundee last week, believe the banners made an impact as they commended the decision.

Their post read: "While we have been critical of the board for many things recently, it’s only fair that we acknowledge some positivity too.

"It seems that they have taken some feedback on board regarding ticket pricing with this announcement. Hopefully, this’ll be a sign of things to come."

Only 9,000 people were able to attend Celtic's free European tie that was included in fans' season tickets, with those not pulled out the ballot having to stream on the club's season pass.

That meant the first game in nearly 18 months for many supporters was against the Czech side on Thursday.

Now, Celtic look ahead to potentially another sell-out crowd on Wednesday and securing a spot in the Europa League group stages.
