Celtic keen on Swansea City boss Graham Potter, claim reports in Scotland

Swansea City boss Graham Potter has become a shock contender for the Celtic job, claim reports in Scotland.

The Scottish Sun say Potter is on a shortlist of candidates the Celtic hierarchy are drawing up as they seek a permanent successor to Brendan Rodgers, who quit for Leicester.

The reports will concern Swans fans who feel Potter can achieve something significant at the Liberty Stadium if funds are freed up.

Neil Lennon has been put in caretaker charge at Celtic and seems to be in pole position to land the job full-time.

However, the reports maintain Celtic's chief executive Peter Lawwell and major shareholder Dermot Desmond are casting their net further to make sure they land the right person.

Celtic are said to be impressed with the way Potter has brought through exciting young players like Dan James and Connor Roberts with Swansea and adopts a passing style which is right up the Scottish giants' street.

They also like Potter's past European experience with Swedish club Ostersunds, who beat Arsenal at the Emirates stadium in the Europa League.

The Sun say Potter's agents are close to the senior Celtic hierarchy.

Rodgers, the ex-Swans and Liverpool manager, left his job at Celtic Park to return to the Premier League with Leicester.

Another former Swansea manager, Roberto Martinez, has also been linked with Celtic, as well as bigger names such as Rafa Benitez and Andre Villas-Boas.

However, Martinez's agent Jesse De Preter ruled him out of the running, saying: "Roberto always seems to be on the shortlist as soon as there is a vacancy at a big club. But this is a false rumour about him going to Celtic. It seems to have come from the fact Roberto has a Scottish wife and has ties to the country. However, there's nothing to see here."

The agent of Villas-Boas, Jean-Paul Lares, also ruled out the former Spurs boss.

Working on a tight budget at the Liberty Stadium, Potter has taken the Swans to 13th place in the Championship.

Their 4-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday pretty much ended any faint lingering hopes of a play off position.
