Celtic join Arsenal in call for isolation order talks as Ryan Christie insists he's done nothing wrong

Celtic will seek talks with the Scottish Government over the decision to place Ryan Christie into self-isolation.

The midfielder has been ordered into a fortnight's quarantine following Scotland team-mate Stuart Armstrong's positive Covid-19 test.

Arsenal's Kieran Tierney and two backroom staff - a physio and masseur - have also been identified as close contacts of Armstrong.

Christie insists he's followed all relevant protocols and has since returned a negative test.

But Government guidelines dictate individuals deemed to have had contact with an infected person must still isolate due to the virus' 14-day incubation period.

The Premiership champions have announced they will seek clarification on this procedure when players continue to test negative.

It comes after Arsenal requested similar dialogue over Tierney.

A Celtic statement said: "Following today’s news regarding Ryan Christie, he has reiterated his adherence to all relevant protocols while on international duty.

"In light of this, Celtic confirmed today that it aims to open dialogue with the Scottish Government and other authorities to fully understand the self-isolation procedures for those players who continue to deliver negative test results, as Ryan has."

And Christie added: “I am so disappointed by the events of today and the potential effects this could have on my country and club.

"As I have operated within these protocols for such a long time now, I am well aware of all the rules and social distancing from team mates has become the norm and something I have observed.

"The situation is very frustrating, particularly as I don’t believe I have done anything wrong.”

The isolation period rules Christie out of the October 17 clash with Rangers.

Striker Odsonne Edouard could also miss out after he tested positive while on international duty with France.
