Celtic is tough, but whoever is in defence will slot in, says Well star

Bevis Mugabi says he knows his Motherwell team-mates inside out, so whoever he's paired with against Celtic on Sunday will be fine.

Alexander's side are struggling for numbers at the back after Ricki Lamie was helped off during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Hibs at Easter Road, with Jake Carroll replacing him in 68 minutes.

That leaves the Steelmen short of recognised centre-backs, but Mugabi says they will simply adapt before heading to Celtic Park.

When asked about a dearth of stoppers, the 26-year-old said: "It looks like it at the moment, so hopefully Ricki's knock isn't too bad and he will be available for the weekend, but it's just something we have to manage as a team, and hopefully we can get through this period.

"As a professional footballer you should be able to adapt to whatever partner you're given.

"I know their strengths and weaknesses, training with them every day, so you should be able to know that, and whoever plays next week I'm sure it will be a good partnership, regardless."

Mugabi says Motherwell's form has picked up of late, with four points in the last week with that draw at Hibs following on from a 1-0 home win over Dundee United on Tuesday night.

The Ugandan international says that will only get better, and is confident of climbing further into the Premiership top six.

He said: "The draw on Saturday is the least we deserved as a team, we should have had three points.

"But getting a draw away to Hibs is still a good result for us, so it's a positive.

"The gaffer just said keep going, keep believing in ourselves.

"We had plenty of chances in the first half, and he said to keep going, I'm sure you're going to get a couple more chances in the second half, so bring it back, and that's what we did.

"I felt like within the last couple of weeks we've shown that we're a hard team to play against and we're a tough opponent.

"It's only going to get better from here on until the end of the season."
