Celtic injury latest as Neil Lennon declares pair doubtful for Ross County clash

Shane Duffy and Scott Brown are doubts for Celtic’s game against Ross County.

Fresh from securing a historic quadruple treble at the weekend with a Scottish Cup final victory over Hearts, it’s back to Scottish Premiership action as they look to try and claw back some ground on Rangers.

Ross County are the visitors to Celtic Park less than a month after piling the pressure on Neil Lennon by dumping The Hoops out of the Betfred Cup at the same venue.

The champions’ form has picked up since then but they can’t afford any more slip ups in the title race.

And they may be without their skipper and one of their centre backs against The Staggies.

Brown limped off at half-time in extra-time at Hampden on Sunday after his header allowed Leigh Griffiths to prod The Celtic into a 3-2 lead before Josh Ginnelly hit back.

The skipper was clearly trying to stretch the pain out of his leg as he watched on from the stands, and it remains to be seen if he’ll recover in time for tomorrow.

After a less than assured performance at the back, Duffy was replaced by Mikey Johnston ahead of extra-time and is also a doubt for John Hughes’ first game in charge of The Highlanders.

Lennon said: "Scott Brown's a major doubt, Shane Duffy's a bit of a doubt. Not long term, they should be okay for Boxing Day."

Johnston however, is fighting fit after a lengthy period out and is feeling good after his run out in the final.

He said: "I’m working on my fitness and trying to get back to full match fitness. I need to work hard every day in training to get back to that level again.

"The lockdown didn’t help. I was having to do a lot of work in the house to get back to full fitness. It was tough but the club supported me and gave me everything I needed.

"I’m 100% fit now. Every player goes through injuries and I need to bounce back. Hopefully I can bring something different to the team and add what we’ve been missing."
