Celtic in Kerr Smith transfer link as Premier League clubs circle Dundee United starlet

Celtic are reported to have joined the race for teenage Dundee United defender Kerr Smith.

The centre-back only turned 16 in December but already has seven senior appearances under his belt.

He broke into the team under Micky Mellon in the second half of last season when the Terrors had little to play for towards the end of the campaign.

And he kept that momentum going with two starts in this season's Premier Sports Cup.

Smith comes very highly rated as the latest gem to come out of the Tannadice academy and according to the Sun, he has attracted interest from five clubs.

Celtic are in the mix, as are four clubs from the English Premier League, with United prepared to sell to the highest bidder before the window closes.

Southampton are believed to be leading the race but Crystal Palace, Leeds and Leicester are all believed to be in the frame.

He has also been linked with Manchester United in the past.

Smith is yet to be used by Tam Courts in the Premiership with Charlie Mulgrew and Ryan Edwards his preferred partnership.
