Celtic heroes to play in charity football clash in memory of East Kilbride schoolboy

Celtic greats are to play in a special charity football match in memory of East Kilbride boy Lee Jamieson.

The fifth-annual Live it for Lee footy fundraiser featuring Celtic legends and locals will this year take place at Cambuslang Rangers FC ground on Saturday, June 22 in aid of cancer research charity Bloodwise.

Celtic heroes Simon Donnelly, Mark Burchill, Mark Wilson and Tom Boyd are to play against Cambuslang Rangers Select with some special guest appearances.

Live it for Lee charity foundation was set up following the death of 12-year-old Lee, who sadly lost his nine-month battle with leukaemia in August 2014.

Lee’s mum Elizabeth-Ann and dad Stephen set up Live it for Lee in his memory and the former Murray Primary pupil’s family, friends and supporters have made it their mission to raise as much money as possible to fund leukaemia and lymphoma research to help find a cure.

The charity has so far raised more than £160,000 for Bloodwise.

Stephen told the East Kilbride News : “This is now our fifth year running events all year to raise money for Bloodwise, who are the main body who research leukaemia.

“However, we couldn’t have raised over £160,000 without the help from our friends and family and, of course, to all the people who come along to our events.

“A lot of companies and businesses in East Kilbride have contributed donations and time and to them we owe a huge thank you.

“East Kilbride Thistle Football Club, last year and this year, have ‘Live It For Lee’ on their strips and have been fantastic at supporting us throughout.

“East Kilbride Community Trust have also been fantastic at supporting us. Claymore Engraving have also been fantastic for advice and supplying all our trophies as well.

“We hope to continue to raise awareness and funds in Lee’s name to keep his memory alive and to help save lives in the future by continuing to raise money for Bloodwise to help their research into leukaemia.

“Hopefully it will be another fantastic game.”

Lee’s pals and former teammates at EK Caledonian Thistle Football Club will kick off proceedings with a tribute match at 11am followed by the legends’ game at 2pm.

There will be a host of fun attractions on the day including a pipe band and performance from cheerleaders the Scottish Rockettes.

Music on the day comes from Clyde 1 GBX DJ Michael Smith.

Entry fee is £5 on the door. Under-fives go free. Gates at Cambuslang Rangers FC, Somervell Park, Cambuslang, open 10.30am.
