Celtic hero Neil Lennon bidding to add Ronaldo to his Messi scalp with 'great question' response

Neil Lennon has already picked up a win over Lionel Messi and Barcelona as Celtic manager.

Now the Hoops hero has his eyes on the double by defeating Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United. The Omonia Nicosia boss welcomes the English Premier League giants to Cyprus later today in the Europa League in a blockbuster showdown for his new side.

During his time at Parkhead, Lennon was no stranger to big results as both a player and manager with Champions League wins over Manchester United while playing while he secured that famous win over Barcelona during his time in charge. At his pre-match press conference the former Celtic man was asked what it would mean to add a victory over superstar Ronaldo to his CV after already defeating Messi as a boss.

He said: "It's a great question because I haven't thought about that.

"It would be amazing. It would be amazing for the club. Obviously we are going to have to suffer a lot during the game, like we did against Barcelona 10 years ago.

"Like I say, we are going to have to defend well and my goalkeeper will need to play well.

"The result at the weekend is probably the worst we could have had because they will be hurt and wounded. There is nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal.

"It has all the ingredients of a great night for the club. In terms of my job, it is to try and scratch a result out some way and keep a foot-hold in the group."

Lennon and Omonia sit bottom of Group E after defeats in their opening two games of the section.

They lost out 3-0 to FC Sheriff before a narrow loss to early group leaders Real Sociedad last time out.
