Celtic hero Mikael Lustig frozen out and forced to train with kids at Gent

Celtic hero Mikael Lustig has been frozen out at Gent after a nightmare season in Belgium.

All mention of the 33-year-old has been removed from the club's website, he wasn't included in the official team photo and he's been forced to train with the reserves away from the first team.

Lustig joined the Belgian side last summer after a hugely successful spell in Scottish football which saw him win eight Premiership titles, and 16 major trophies with Celtic.

However things haven't quite gone to plan, and he was even named in the Flop Team of the Year after losing his full-back spot to Alessio Castro-Montes shortly after joining.

Sports director Michel Louwagie said: "At the moment, Lustig is training with the reserve team.

"That's the situation with him just now. Tomorrow it could be different - that's life as a football player.

"It's the decision of the manager."

The situation means that Lustig's future is uncertain, and he has reportedly attracted interest from clubs in Sweden.

The right back joined Celtic in 2012 and became a key part of the side which dominated Scottish football under Neil Lennon and Brendan Rodgers.

He has also been capped 82 times for Sweden and played in the 2018 FIFA World Cup where his country made the quarter finals.
