Celtic hero Frank McAvennie hopeful Giorgios Giakoumakis and Kyogo Furuhashi can become 'deadly' duo

Frank McAvennie has high hopes for Celtic's frontline this season after the signing of Giorgis Giakoumakis from VVV-Venlo.

The Greek hitman became Ange Postecoglou's 10th new recruit, signing a five-year deal on deadline day after leaving the Dutch club - who were relegated from the Eredivisie last season.

Despite a poor campaign for the team, Giakoumakis managed to notch 26 goals and top the scoring charts.

The 26-year-old Greece international excites McAvennie, particularly when complemented by Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi, already doing the business in green and white having scored seven goals to start the season.

McAvennie couldn't quite believe Giakoumakis' record in the Netherlands when asked by Football Insider.

“Let me tell you something, that’s amazing,” he said.

“I mean, when I saw that, he’s clearly a very good striker. If you are scoring that many goals in a side that got relegated, that’s incredible.

“Clearly he wasn’t the problem in the team. He probably only had 26 chances all season, he must be clinical.

“I can’t wait to see him, I hope he and Kyogo can strike up a partnership because they could be deadly for Celtic.

“I can’t get over that, 26 goals in a relegated team, how many would he have scored in a good team?

“You can’t put this expectation on him but I’m expecting big things.”
