Celtic hero Emilio Izaguirre reveals GLASS in his eye during terrifying Honduras riot

Former Celtic player Emilio Izaguirre has taken to social media to reassure fans after he was injured during a Honduras football riot.

Supporters of bitter rivals Olimpia and Motagua clashed in wild scenes outside the National Stadium before the match in the capital Tegucigalpa.

The flashpoint is believed to have started when a bus carrying Motagua players was attacked, leaving three players injured, club president Pedro Atala said on social media.

Julieth Chavarría, a spokesman for Hospital Escuela, told AFP that “Seven people were admitted, three of them died and four are still being treated in the emergency room.”

Defender Izaguirre, who left the Hoops this summer, attended hospital alongside Motagua team-mates Jonathan Rougier and Roberto Moreira

He posted to Instagram to reveal the horror injury adding: "Thank God everything is fine, it was only the scare."

He said a "little pieces of glass fell in my eye" but it was "nothing serious"

The left-back was thankful that "the danger has passed " how "painful" it was thinking of those who had lost their lives.
