Celtic hero Chris Sutton aims Rangers dig at Kris Boyd after ex Ibrox striker makes Scottish Cup claim

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has taken aim at Kris Boyd after the Rangers hero questioned why the Scottish Cup was being finished with no fans present.

The two 2019/20 Scottish Cup semi-finals take place this weekend with Hearts facing Hibs on Saturday and Celtic taking on Aberdeen on Sunday.

The matches were originally scheduled to take place in the spring, but postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

During the shutdown the games were rescheduled for this weekend, with the hope that fans may be able to attend games.

As reported by the Scottish Sun, Boyd questioned why the competition is being finished with supporters still locked out. He said: "I was under the impression the competition was only going ahead to provide the SFA with some much-needed revenue from fans.

"When they made the decision in the summer it was on the understanding supporters would be back inside stadiums.

"So with supporters still shut out why are we bothering?"

However Sutton fired back at the former Rangers striker after reading the comments on social media – suggesting he was only asking such questions as his former club are no longer involved.

He wrote: "Kris Boyd questioning why last season’s Scottish Cup is being finished (because Rangers aren’t in it)..."

Celtic take on Aberdeen at Hampden Park from 2.30pm on Sunday. We'll have all the build-up, key events and reaction covered right here on Glasgow Live.
