Celtic have £4m Mario Vuskovic transfer 'rejected' as Hoops target Croatian centre-back

Celtic have had a £4million offer for Hajduk Split centre-back Mario Vuskovic rejected, according to a report.

The Parkhead side are looking for defensive reinforcements with Christopher Jullien out injured, Kris Ajer tipped to leave in the summer and Shane Duffy set to return to Brighton at the end of the season.

And the Italian media claim 19-year-old Vuskovic is a player Celtic are pursuing but their opening offer was knocked back.

Torino are said to be interested in acquiring the Croatian rising star too, with Napoli also showing an interest in January.

Vuskovic has burst onto the scene this season with Split and is highly-rated in his homeland.

It remains to be seen if Celtic will go back in with a follow-up offer, but one thing is for sure they will need new personnel in defence for next term.

Jullien suffered up a long-term knee injury and will not return in time for the new campaign, while the future of Ajer is up in the air.

The Norwegian is claimed to be among the first-team stars that are looking for a new club in the upcoming transfer window.

Duffy has had a torrid time at Parkhead on loan from Brighton and will be one less player on the books as he's set to return to England.

Jack Hendry has impressed with Oostende but his future is also in doubt as the Belgian side reportedly have an option to make the move permanent.
