Celtic handed Mohamed Elyounoussi and Fraser Forster contract boost

Southampton are reportedly 'relaxed' about extending the loan deals of Fraser Forster and Mohamed Elyounoussi at Celtic.

The pair's loan deals are in danger of running out as the season looks to be extended into the summer due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Elyounoussi's short term deal at Parkhead ends on May 31, while keeper Forster's expires on June 30.

But journalist Alex Crook says it's a situation that shouldn't be a problem for the Hoops as the Saints will be happy to extend their pair's loan deals until the conclusion of the Premiership.

He told talkSPORT: "Neil Lennon has come out and said we really need them to stay to the end of the season whenever that may be.

"Because they are both under contract, Southampton are pretty relaxed about that.

"If they have to extend their loans, I think they will so that's good news for Celtic."

Celtic boss Neil Lennon admitted it was an unprecedented situation with the season on hold, but was keen to work something out with Southampton.

He said: "These are things we have never experienced before.

“Listen, it’s not exclusive to us. A lot of clubs are in the same position.

“I think we are covered for any eventuality, if the league is postponed or truncated or elongated into the summer. That’s hypothetical so I don’t know but we will be ready.

"This has thrown up all sorts of interesting quirks and questions.

“I would need to speak to Peter Lawwell or Michael Nicholson on that subject.

“It’s another thing I will now have to think about.

“There may well be a conversation with Southampton on that.”
