Celtic had a superb transfer window and will now seal the title by beating Rangers - Hotline

The transfer window slammed shut but we can still hear the Old Firm storm brewing ahead of today’s showdown at Celtic Park. Both clubs are bang in form but Hoops fans reckon the title race will be OVER if they can put daylight between the sides this lunchtime.

Paddy Gowans , via email, said: “Let's not beat about the bush here, if Celtic beat Rangers they will be five points clear and that, I'm afraid, will be league over in September.” Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: “I nearly choked on my cornflakes reading Rangers are going to do this and that. May I remind them the champions of Scotland are 42 games undefeated and It will be 43 come Saturday. My man Kyogo is back, we will be five points clear.”

Celts snapped up Oliver Abildgaard on deadline day while there were no new incomings at Ibrox in the final hours of the window. David Bryce, Troon , said: “ Celtic had a superb transfer window. I am happy we have added much needed steel to the midfield with the big Dane. I salute the board for their sterling work.

“But someone will have to explain to me why Mikey Johnston deserves a contract extension. He never kicks a ball each season and contributes nothing. What a strange decision.”

Paul McCormack, Coatbridge, said: “I bet Rangers fans are pinching themselves today. That's at least six transfer windows they've managed to hold on to Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.”

But Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus , said: “It was Gio van Bronckhorst’s call on transfers. The board would have spent money if he needed a player. Celtic have signed half of Europe plus moves into Russia and South America, you can only play so many.”

Andy Logan emailed: “In response to Chris Lowe’s comment about Matt O’Riley’s worth any player is only worth what someone will pay for them, using his logic how then is Glen Kamara £50k signing worth £10m when he’s not even a starter?”

Speak of the devil, Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “I’m not surprised at the latest record breaking domestic stat of Celtic going three full games without a booking. Pet referees and linesmen were instrumental in them winning the league last year and in gaining this year's slender advantage so far.

“It’s no wonder Rangers haven’t had a penalty at Celtic park in over 12 years , referees are terrified of them.”

Leighton Kirk, Cowie , said: “Had to laugh and shake my head in disbelief at Celtic supporters' concern about Nick Walsh. To even up the pressure on the referee, Rangers haven't been awarded a penalty against Celtic in the league for over 12 years. Just saying…”

Morelos has been on the Ibrox naughty step but Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach , said: “From a goal scoring point of view Morelos should not only be in the squad but also playing along with Antonio Colak.

“Every Gers fan knows Morelos can score important goals, keeping him sidelined out of spite would be foolish. There is redemption if he’s back scoring goals.”

Meanwhile, Gers fans reckon they can show their Euro class. Craig Wilson, Kirkintilloch, said: “What is caller Robert McLean smoking? Rangers in recent years have beaten Porto, Dortmund, Braga, Leipzig & PSV amongst others, while his lot were humiliated by Sparta Prague reserves and the giants of Bodo/Glimt.

“Celtic were knocked out of three European competitions in the space of three months and haven’t won a knockout round in 18 years. Rangers, meanwhile, have won 21 in four years."
