Celtic got a decision after crying wolf and Rangers are just raging someone else got a 50/50 call – Hotline

After another weekend of VAR controversy, fans from across the board had a host of Hotline complaints and a few obligatory conspiracy theories. Two Scottish Viaplay Cup semi-finals and a furore over a spate of decisions drove some fans to distraction.

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, emailed: "As usual Rangers get their helping hand from the referee and everyone has just got to accept it. On the other hand, Celtic got one decision which was 50/50 at best and all the Rangers fans are up in arms. They are so used to only themselves getting decisions but when someone else gets one it’s a scandal."

Andrew Adams, Kirkcaldy, said: "Funnily enough I don't see any complaints about VAR this week, unless you're a Kilmarnock fan of course, but who gives a monkey's about what they think? It's the same old story, if you cry wolf often enough you're going to get a decision that suits you." Alan Flett said: "Just what is it with Celtic? They get everything handed to them on a plate, they get preferential treatment from the SFA, their captain can say whatever he likes to the media, safe in the knowledge there will be no repercussions. Every Scotland manager I can think of, has gone out of his way to select players based purely on the basis that they play for Celtic. Paul McStay and Tosh McKinlay are just two prime examples. We’re all sick of the whinging."

Iain Alan, Linlithgow, said: "Whilst I cannot deny Anthony Stewart's clumsy tackle deserved at least a booking, Fashion Sakala rolling about the ground like a five-year-old having a tantrum no doubt helped the referee make up his mind and get the player sent off. He's definitely got a future in pantomime or maybe a spot in River City."

Robert Pender said: "Come on Chris Sutton, time to grow up and speak sense as it appears he will use anything to attack Rangers. His latest on Ryan Kent was nothing more than handbags from both players, Celtic are a good side without all this moaning hype."

George Wilson, West Sussex, said: "Celtic's paranoid supporters are still moaning about injustice and everyone being against them as well as Rangers always getting penalties but conceding none. Yet Callum McGregor had the cheek to stand up and say there was nothing to see in the Giorgos Giakoumakis incident when he made contact with the Kilmarnock player, nothing that he wanted to admit to anyway."

Joe Graham, Garrowhill, said: "What a cracking semi-final Rangers and Aberdeen gave the fans. Rangers were out the traps early, determined to reach the final with out and out forward attacking play. I don't know how both teams managed to serve up what they did on a disgusting pitch which was unfit for play. The SFA must surely hang their heads in shame. The playing surface was atrocious and the stadium needs to be bulldozed to the ground. There's no way they will get this sorted for the final so I suggest the final is played at either Ibrox and Celtic Park."

Gerrard Kelly emailed: "As much as I like Ange Postecoglou and what he is doing for the club, I think selling big Giakoumakis is a mistake as he is banging in the goals and £4m would be a disgrace. We shouldn't be selling young talent just because they don't fit in his system then I suggest he makes them fit. I can't see him lasting long if he continues in this way."

Stephen Johnstone Arden tinny, said: "The Hampden pitch looked like a farmer's field and only fit for cattle, not for football players and should have been abandoned. The SFA should replay this tie at another ground as both teams turned it into a smash and grab match due to the state of the pitch and both teams were very lucky no one got seriously injured. Our national stadium should be renamed Shampden Park."

And finally.

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: "I don't envy the voting panel for the soon to be announced World Footballer of the Year. The shortlist is down to a fight between three of the English Lionesses or Lionel Messi. Such a tough choice. It's time to get real and blank out the pretence that women's football can be evaluated alongside the men's game."
