Celtic goal leaves Motherwell boss feeling 'sick' says pundit as duo agree Steelmen denied Parkhead penalty

Richard Foster and Michael Stewart believe Motherwell should have had a penalty against Celtic - but the Hoops' eventual winner will leave boss Graham Alexander far from pleased.

Tom Rogic's goal with the final action of the first half sealed a narrow 1-0 Premiership win for Celtic at Parkhead, leaving the Steelmen fifth in the league.

Callum Slattery hit the bar for the claret and amber side while Sean Goss' effort was brilliantly saved by Hoops goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Sportscene pundits Foster and Stewart agree though that Alexander's men should have had a penalty at 0-0.

As Tony Watt made his way into the box, he was brought down by Cameron Carter-Vickers, but referee Euan Anderson wasn't for budging.

Once Stewart stated it should have been a penalty, Foster said: "The ball is scooped in the air and then he (Carter-Vickers) misses the header. He blocks the shot and I tend to agree, I think it's a penalty.

"I think the defender leaves his leg there long enough. As Tony goes to get the ball, Carter-Vickers leaves his leg up. I think the right decision was a penalty.

"I think Tony was going to get to that and Carter-Vickers impedes him. That's unfortunate."

There was debate over whether the free-kick which led to Celtic's goal was a foul. Mikey Johnston tussled with Slattery, going to ground over the top of the midfielder, who was booked for the incident.

Alexander was also booked for his protests, but Stewart says the 'Well boss will be disappointed with how his side left attacking midfielder Rogic free to have a shot at goal.

He added: "You expect Celtic to have most of the chances at Parkhead but Motherwell were competitive and had chances, which is credit to them.

"People who have watched Motherwell recognise they are a tough team to play against. The defending from the free-kick wasn't great.

"I think it's a foul but it's not a booking. Rogic is never picked up at any point. There's no communication. Somebody has to recognise Rogic is at the back post unmarked.

"It's a really nice finish but Graham Alexander will be sick that they have defended it like that."
