Celtic given Zlatan Ibrahimovic reprieve as Milan star set to miss Europa League clash

Celtic are not expected to face Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Thursday as the Milan star battles back from a muscular problem.

Neil Lennon's side visit San Siro for their penultimate Europa League group game having already been eliminated from the competition.

However, there are still coefficient points to play for, with Scotland currently in position to secure an automatic group stage place for 2021-22.

That would mean the Premiership champions avoiding the lengthy qualification process that has tripped Celtic up in recent seasons.

And hopes of a result in Milan have been boosted by the likely absence of Serie A top-scorer Ibrahimovic.

The 39-year-old suffered a hamstring injury after bagging a brace against Napoli last weekend and sat out the draw with Lille.

Asked about the condition of Ibrahimovic assistant coach Daniele Bonera said: "He will be evaluated next week, he's in good spirits which gives us hope for a return as soon as possible."

However, according to Corriere della Sera the veteran has been advised to take no risks with his hamstring due to his age.

Ibra is therefore expected to miss the next two weeks, meaning he'll be out for games against Fiorentina, Celtic, Sparta Prague and Sampdoria.
