Celtic given scathing assessment by former Ferencvaros man who is 'convinced' Hungarians will get Budapest revenge

Former Ferencvaros defender Andras Telek believes Peter Stoger’s side will exact their revenge upon Celtic i n next month's Europa League encounter - as the Hungarian side can't play any worse than they did at Parkhead.

Ange Postecoglou's team beat Ferencvaros 2-0 on Tuesday to breathe life back into their Europa League campaign and move three points off second and first place in Group G.

The Hungarians put up little resistance and eventually succumbed to their fate through Kyogo Furuhashi's strike and a Balint Vecsei own goal.

Telek - a pundit for Borosonline - believes Ferencvaros are weak and Celtic have improved from last year's meeting in which the Hungarians beat Neil Lennon's Celtic in Champions League qualifying.

But he admits that while he expects his former side to beat the Hoops in next month's return fixture, Ferencvaros can't be fragile again.

"I don’t think Celtic offered too much, but unfortunately that little bit was enough to leave the field with our heads down," Telek said.

"The first half might have been acceptable, we could have even figured it out. Admittedly, the Scots now seem like a better team. They’re faster and braver. And, they can also score a goal, which cannot be said of us.

"It is always the coach who decides what his team should play. However, I don’t really understand why I didn’t even see our players donate their blood for success.

"The guys should have been fired up during the break, not content with 0-0.

"I have to say, we are simply weak. We can only play better on November 4th. I am convinced that we will defeat the Scots, and maybe then we can still pinch third place in the group.

"You have to play football more imaginatively, more militantly, as the Franciscan crowd expects that from Peter Stoger’s team. True, this requires a lot more work for everyone.”
