Celtic given major attendance increase as Dundee clash set for 24,500 crowd

Celtic have been granted permission to allow 24,500 fans in attendance for their first home Premiership match of the season.

The Hoops take on Dundee on August 7 after this weekend's opening game away to Hearts, where no away fans are permitted with the Gorgie club choosing to look after their season ticket holders first.

The crowd will be a marked increase from the 18,500 allowed in for last weekend's friendly against West Ham.

And it gives manager Ange Postecoglou a major boost going into the league season as his players get the backing of more and more of the Parkhead support as the weeks go on with full houses hopefully not too far off.

Chief executive Dominic McKay added: “I would like to thank our fans for all the fantastic support they have given us in reaching these levels.

“I would also like to thank all our staff for their efforts and hard work in allowing us to reach this stage, as well as the Safety Advisory Group for all their co-operation.

"We will be doing all we can to work closely with the relevant authorities and welcome our fans back in even greater numbers in the coming weeks.”

The announcement came just moments after league and city rivals Rangers released information pertaining to their opening day match at home to Livingston, in which an attendance of 23,000 is permitted.
