Celtic given Leigh Griffiths 'no-brainer' advice as Charlie Mulgrew tips him for Euro 2020 call

Charlie Mulgrew has urged Celtic to tie Leigh Griffiths down and don't risking losing him on a free transfer.

The former Celtic star reckons if there's an opportunity to get him signed on a new contract for next season then it's a 'no-brainer' for a new incoming manager.

Eddie Howe is favourite for the job but it's unclear when or if he will take the job, and Griffiths lack of game time has led to suggestions he could leave this summer.

A move to Aberdeen alongside Scott Brown has been mooted, as has a return to former club Hibs, but Mulgrew hopes he will still be at Celtic Park next season.

And he told Sky Sports: "If they get someone in this year you might get something extra out of Leigh.

"He’s coming into the last year of his contract if Celtic take up the option. If a manager can get his arm around him and get him scoring, a fit Leigh Griffiths is worth his weight in gold.

"Get him fit, get him striking, get him confident. You know how big confidence is in football and get him scoring goals.

"I think it’s a no brainer."

Griffiths got back to goalscoring last week when he netted against Aberdeen, and with Scotland heading to the Euros this summer, Mulgrew reckons Steve Clarke should get him involved.

He added: "If I was Scotland I’d get him in the Scotland squad somehow for the Euros. He’s a goalscorer, we saw what he did against England last time and he turns up for the big occasions.

"He’s somebody that I would want in my squad and somebody I’d want to get the best out of."
