Celtic given fresh Yan Couto transfer competition as Braga 'enter race' for Man City starlet

Braga have emerged as a contender to sign Man City right-back Yan Couto on loan.

It comes as a blow for Celtic who are still hoping to conclude a similar deal for the 19-year-old in the days ahead.

The Brazilian has been tipped for big things after spending last season on loan at City's sister club Girona.

He made 30 appearances for the Spanish second-tier side and has done enough to impress Pep Guardiola since joining the Premier League champions in a £5m deal last summer.

Couto was in the City squad to face Leicester in the Community Shield but he isn't expected to play a part in their first-team plans this season.

Ange Postecoglou has made moves to bring him to Celtic and he attended their Europa League win over Jablonec at Parkhead, where he was said to have been blown away by the atmosphere.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, however, Braga have now emerged as competition.

And they're hoping to seal a season-long loan that would end Celtic's pursuit.

Hope isn't lost though as the report does note Braga are still some way from concluding a deal, and aren't prepared to pay the entirety of his wages - which City would prefer.

The Hoops also have eyes on Croatian defender Josip Juranovic and Antwerp's Aurelio Buta, though Everton appear to have stolen a march on the latter.
