Celtic matches against Aberdeen and St Mirren officially called off after Boli Bolingoli breach

It has been confirmed that Celtic's upcoming matches against St Mirren and Aberdeen will be suspended.

The SFA and SPFL Joint Response Group confirmed the postponement of three upcoming matches.

Neil Lennon's side were due to take on St Mirren at St Mirren Park on Wednesday night, before welcoming Aberdeen to Celtic Park on Saturday.

Aberdeen's match against Hamilton Accies tomorrow night is also postponed.

All of those games will now be rescheduled.

The Joint Response Group said: "During discussions this morning with the Minister for Public Health, Sport and Wellbeing a request was received - and subsequently agreed to by the Joint Response Group - for the postponement of the following fixtures:

"WEDNESDAY 12 AUGUST: Aberdeen v Hamilton Academical, St Mirren v Celtic.

"SATURDAY 15 AUGUST: Aberdeen v Celtic.

"These matches have been postponed in light of ongoing restrictions in Aberdeen and today's news of a breach of government public health guidance and football protocols involving the Celtic FC player Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo."

Speaking at her lunchtime briefing on Tuesday, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon condemned players who "seem incapable of living up to their responsibilities" and said: "I think as a minimum, you should not be expecting to see Aberdeen or Celtic play over the course of the coming week, and we'll set out conclusions beyond that."

Her comments came after Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli flew out to Spain without informing his club, failed to isolate upon returning to the country and played as Neil Lennon's team drew 1-1 with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Sunday.

Earlier this month, eight Aberdeen players issued an apology after going out drinking following their 1-0 defeat to Rangers at Pittodrie on the opening day of the Premiership season.
