Celtic frontrunner Ange Postecoglou refused to deny Parkhead links this morning

Celtic managerial target Ange Postecoglou has refused to deny reports linking him to the vacant managerial position at Parkhead.

Postecoglu was in the home dugout for Yokohama Marinos' 2-1 victory over Shimizu in the J-League this morning, with the victory lifting Yokohama to third in the table.

But with speculation around manager Postecoglu intensifying by the day, it remains to be seen whether he'll be in Japanese football for much longer.

Understandably, the question on everybody's lips after the full-time whistle today was Postecoglu's reaction to being the favourite to take over from Neil Lennon at Celtic, and the 55-year-old told Japan Times : “Everyone knows me, knows that my focus is always on what’s in front of me.

“I’ve understood there’s some speculation around the future, but I’ve stopped thinking about the what-ifs in the world a long time ago.

"It's not a guaranteed thing at all. My motto is to focus on the work that is in front of me.

“My focus the last couple of days has been on making sure we play well today.

“My focus is here (with Marinos). This is the job I’ve got, and I’ve always done that my whole career.

“I’m just focused on the job I have and making sure I do it well — or else other people will decide my future.”

With players returning for pre-season training in under three weeks, and vital Champions League qualifiers kicking-off in the first week in July, the Hoops hierarchy need to seriously pick up the pace and appoint a new boss sooner rather than later.
