Celtic frontrunner Ange Postecoglou drops job hint as favourite reveals his 'greatest joy'

Frontrunner for the Celtic job Ange Postecoglou has dropped a hint over where he sees his next role.

The Australian has emerged as the favourite to take over from John Kennedy after attempts to persuade Eddie Howe to take the job failed yesterday following months of talks.

Noe Postecoglou, current in charge of Japanese outfit Yokohama Marinos, is thought to have jumped to the head of the shortlist.

He only recently signed a new contract with his current club but in an interview in Japan last week, he admitted that he may not stay there and is likely to continue his career overseas.

That leaves the door open for a switch to the Scottish Premiership.

Postecoglou said: “As a family, we've made a decision we're going to stay overseas for the rest of my career and see where else we can make an impact. Maybe it's here in Japan, maybe I'll stay awhile and build something special.

“Or it could be somewhere else.

“For me, it's just about producing football teams that play a certain way. The way that my old man liked watching teams play - that's always the major draw point for me.

“The focus for me will always be football rather than the destination, but there's a Greek island there with my name written all over it and maybe I will be the president of the local team there!

“No, look, I've always maintained my whole coaching career that goals and dreams and aspirations are kind of secondary to me. I love what I do. I dodged having a real job my whole life.

“There isn't a day I've got up and said 'Ah, I've got to go into work today'. I just don't see it that way. I love what I do and my passion is football and just seeing the team play a certain way. That's my greatest joy still.

“So for the rest of my days while coaching that's what I want to do. I want to produce teams that play a certain way that gets people talking and have success obviously, because if I don't have success, I'm not going to have a job.

“At the moment in my career, those two things have married up pretty well, when I get a team playing a certain way success follows. So that's where my drive and passion still is, whether that's here at Yokohama or wherever my next sort of adventure may be."
